The name barramundi means "Big Scale". 
 
These fish are very important to our people as they are abundant in the northern part of Australia. 
 
When they are born, they are all male and and change sex accordingly to the ration of male to female. 
 
Depending on how hot or cool the summer is will depend what sex they become. 
 
The cooler the summer the more females there are.
